Deep Research: feels like Star Wars
Digital Bepop is rhythm.
Before you read, hit play.
Technology has already surpassed us at the speed of light.
There's no point in continuing to chase it; we need a different strategy.
Deep Research is an advanced method that leverages artificial intelligence, advanced web search, and in-depth data analysis to identify emerging trends, hidden insights, and future scenarios with strategic precision in just minutes.
The "Big 3" that have made it accessible to everyone are Gemini, Perplexity, and, of course, ChatGPT. I'll show you how each of them works and what results you can expect from each.
How to conduct Deep Research with Gemini
Before you start a research, you need to have a very clear idea of your goal.
Enrica Amaturo, with "The Methodology of Social Research," has already taught us a lesson (especially us shabby marketers).
If you don’t start with a clear research question, all the work will be useless, weak, and inconsistent. Artificial intelligence amplifies what you already have; it doesn’t fill a complete lack of vision, not always.
Let’s take a concrete example: I want to study the trend of protein snacks in the foodporn angle. Here’s the prompt I used:
Gemini's analysis
First of all, know that Deep Research uses reasoning models, so what the AI finds is then processed. Google's model excels at this.
It processes, compares, and thinks it through.
It has built a clear picture: the market is growing rapidly, but it’s not just a matter of demand. It’s a matter of perception.
There’s an ongoing battle between plant-based and animal proteins. Food is identity, lifestyle, a visual language consumed first with the eyes and then with the mouth. Gen Z wants snacks that are tasty, healthy, and Instagram-worthy. Millennials are looking for the perfect compromise between nutrition and convenience. And companies must address both needs without losing authenticity.
Gemini has dug into the numbers. It found data on sales, CAGR, and growth forecasts. But the most interesting part is something else: it connected all of this with social trends, showing how TikTok and Instagram have transformed the concept of “protein snacks” from a functional necessity to an aesthetic fetish. The slow-motion of melting chocolate, the perfect sound of a bar breaking, the cream that melts under your teeth: these details sell more than the ingredient list on the back of the package.
And if this is true, then the question is no longer what the next trending ingredient will be, but how to make a snack go viral before it’s even good?

How to use Deep Research with Perplexity
While Gemini focuses on the ability to process data and build structured reasoning, Perplexity plays the speed card. But be careful: speed doesn't mean depth.
With Perplexity, you get a flood of data taken from articles, market research, and open sources, but often without a true critical filter. It’s perfect for those who want Super Research, rather than true Deep Research.
It’s not enough to find information to build a strategy. What’s needed is the ability to read, interpret, and connect that information to a context. This is where Perplexity shows its limits: the data is up-to-date, but its reliability heavily depends on the sources it selects, and there’s a lack of real strategic synthesis work.

ChatGPT, the agent
If Gemini is the strategic consultant and Perplexity is the hyper-fast reporter, ChatGPT is the conductor of Deep Research. The difference isn’t just in the amount of information collected, but in how it is processed and turned into concrete actions.
ChatGPT helps you answer the most important question: what do I do now? Its strength lies in its ability to build strategies and suggest future scenarios based on the analyzed data, shifting from a descriptive approach to an operational one.
The analysis of foodporn protein snacks precisely highlighted the exponential market trend, with growth from $4.1 billion in 2022 to over $10 billion in 2032, driven by:
Increased demand for functional and nutritionally balanced snacks;
Expansion of plant-based alternatives and precision fermentation;
The trend toward "snackification" of meals, where protein snacks replace traditional lunches and dinners;
Foodporn and social content, which have turned protein snacks into desirable products for their aesthetics, even before their nutritional value.
ChatGPT connected this data to the evolution of consumption habits, showing how Gen Z is redefining the very concept of a snack: no longer just an energy source, but a true aesthetic and identity statement.
Why is ChatGPT superior for me?
It doesn’t just stop at raw data but provides insights that guide decision-making;
It builds forecasts and future scenarios, anticipating market moves;
It suggests concrete strategies, such as optimizing packaging, viral campaigns, and product positioning;
It develops marketing and communication plans, indicating the best channels to leverage the trend;
Example of how it turns research into strategy:
Imagine you want to launch a viral protein snack on TikTok. ChatGPT can:
Analyze the most effective content formats (slow-motion, ASMR, food storytelling);
Suggest collaborations with influencers and creators already established in the industry;
Propose co-branding strategies, such as with fitness brands or gourmet bakeries;
Predict future consumption preferences, helping to choose the right ingredients and positioning.
A key aspect of its superiority over Gemini and Perplexity is its ability to make predictions, not only anticipating what is working now but also identifying the next steps to stay competitive.
✅ Gemini helps you interpret the data.
✅ Perplexity gives you an updated overview.
✅ ChatGPT tells you exactly how to move to win.
